The LAACH ON program mentors youth in academic settings such as schools and libraries in efforts to cultivate the inspiration and motivation they need to focus their energies on academics, personal, social and career development. This occurs in the following ways:
Career & College Exploration – Work experiences and reflections, information about post-secondary education and financial aid options as well as guest speakers and field trips to worksites to learn about career options.
Social & Life Skills Development – Leadership and teamwork development through project-based work experiences and the Youth Advisory Committee; Skill streaming; and financial and health literacy training.
Cultural Pride & Diversity – Promoting respect for one’s ethnic heritage; and furnishing knowledge of other cultures, races or ethnic groups; and teaching awareness and appreciation about other cultures in the group in a way that counters what their outside environments may be like.
Community Service Learning – Teen Outreach Program (TOP) – during the school year and summer.
Adult Led Discussion Groups – Dealing with the application of program learning experiences, social and personal issues, future plans and the transition from middle school to high school.
Parent Education – Covering the topics of adolescent development, parent-child communication and preparation for academic achievement, career selection and post-secondary education.
